What is a diagnostic? Thomas Serena, MD, FACS will review the development and evidence for diagnostics in the wound care field. It will begin with an overview of the problem of bacteria in open wounds. The focus will shift to bacterial diagnostics in nonhealing wounds, particularly optical technologies. Evidence for fluorescence imaging will be reviewed along with guidelines for use in everyday practice. Finally, the steps to establish an antimicrobial stewardship program will be presented.
