Social Media has Revolutionized Finding a Job
Social media has revolutionized the process of finding a job. For me,
personally, this has never been more evident than now. I’m half way through
completing my residency in Boston, am originally from California - and able to use
social media outlets from LinkedIn, Facebook to Instagram and Twitter to not
only find practitioners and their offices in Southern California where I plan to build
my career but also connect with podiatrists who went to school, residency, or
fellowship with my attendings on the east coast. The podiatric field is a small
community, and I’ve yet to reach out to a doctor and not have a positive
interaction.
On a more personal level, after graduating from CSPM, my friends
and classmates have scattered across the country. Social media helps us all
keep in touch. Recently I had a colleague tell me that he is looking for a job in
Northern California . I put him in touch with a local podiatrist friend through social
media. With the option to create a business page on these various platforms,
people are using social media both to find jobs and promote their business in
a non-invasive way. In my opinion, it is one of the few perks of social media
and I do believe the good is outweighing the bad in this regard!
