Comparison of Dorsal Dermal Fascial Fenestrations with Fasciotomy in an Acute Compartment Syndrome Model in the Foot

Compartment syndrome is an emergent clinical entity defined by increased pressure in a closed osteofascial space causing decreased tissue perfusion, ischemia, and, if untreated, potentially tissue necrosis. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of compartment decompression with dorsal dermal fascial fenestration - also known as the “dorsal pie crusting” technique and to compare it with fasciotomy in a cadaveric foot compartment syndrome model.
