This webinar will introduce near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) imaging and review how this technology can be used to enhance the assessment, clinical management of patients, and support interdisciplinary communication to help bridge the gap in limb preservation management to improve clinical outcomes. Jason Forbes, DO and Erin Buchness, MHL, BSN, RN will review a series of clinical cases to demonstrate the critical decision steps and management algorithms used to achieve optimal outcomes in the care of these patients.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Review NIRS technology and describe how it is used in the clinical setting.
  2. Discuss how NIRS can be used in the Wound Care Clinic for assessment, monitoring wounds to evaluate baseline vascular status and foster appropriate Vascular Referral to track, monitor, and document wound healing progress and changes in the treatment pathway.
  3. Understand how NIRS can be used to qualify patients for hyperbaric oxygen therapy through effectively monitoring the continued therapeutic benefits that adequately prepare the wound bed for application of advanced therapies such as cellular and/or tissue products.
  4. Review a series of clinical cases utilizing NIRS in wound clinic patients, the imaging protocol utilized resulting in a documented decrease in amputations.
