This lecture will review contemporary minimally invasive techniques for the management of calcaneal and ankle fractures, with a focus on appropriate patient and fracture selection, surgical strategies, and adjunctive technologies. Dr. Martina Randall will discuss identification of fracture patterns amenable to minimally invasive approaches, including the sinus tarsi approach for calcaneal fractures and intramedullary fixation of the fibula. The session will examine the biomechanical and clinical advantages of minimally invasive fixation compared with traditional extensile approaches, emphasizing reduced wound complications and comparable functional outcomes. In addition, the role of arthroscopy in fracture care will be explored, including its use in detecting intra-articular pathology, evaluating reduction quality, and supporting operative decision-making.
