In this lecture, Dr. Steinberg addresses the role of surgery in relieving pedal pressures and preventing diabetic foot ulcerations. He discusses the concepts and reasoning behind performing prophylactic surgery in this patient population. Emphasis is placed on the importance of proper patient selection and the corresponding risk vs. benefit dilemmas. Several pictorial case studies are presented depicting various foot deformities treated by prophylactic surgical intervention.
