What's all the buzz about honey?
Section:  Diabetes
I am currently on rotation which heavily features wound care, and one attending in particular that I’ve been working with is a strong advocate for honey-impregnated wound dressings. Apparently, these dressings have become more sophisticated in recent years, including some products that combine honey with alginates to provide moisture control.

Having not had a great deal of exposure to this sort dressing, I have been interested to see how this modality will work. What experiences, if any, have you had with honey impregnated wound dressings?

RE: Honey Dressings
The topic of Honey based wound dressings is certainly not a new one, but the recent release of new products has created a huge degree of media attention and public curriousity. We have been using Medi-Honey on several problem wound patients with good success and have found a particular niche for vasculitis ulceration and exudative leg ulcers. Many patients relate a decrease in pain after the application and it is generally easy to use.

This certainly is a niche product and is not the miracle that some in the media how touted. I do believe it will be a help to many patients.
