RE:
I know of several attendings at my program who have some experience utilizing lasers to treat onychomycosis, and the inital results have been favorable. Disadvantages are direct cost to the patient (it is unlikely that insurance will cover), however the success rates, according to the distributor, have been significantly above 80%. In our initial cases we have see good outcomes thus far, however it is a new service for us, and therefore the data is in its infancy....

RE:
Here in México we use CO2 lasers to treat onychomycosis daily, we do not use it as the pinpointe laser therapy, they use the light of the laser difracted over the nail as a therapy to eliminate the pathogen and we use it to create fenestrations through the nail plate and apply antimycotic agents afterwards, the cost of session of the pinpointe is about 1000 usdlls and the cost of our treatment is about 150 usdlls, so this is also disadvantage as Ryan said. But effectiveness is quite similar above 80% and to us it´s been publicity about the word LASER, what brings patients to our service... but that´s just my point of view...
