Is Medicare limiting the number of visits for ulcer debridement?
Section:  Diabetes
I remember hearing last year that medicare was proposing limiting reimbursement for diabetic ulcer debridements to 5-6 visits only. If they are talking about the same patients with diabetic ulcers, both you and I know that treatment encounters can amount up to 14 visits before a wound is successfully healed. I wonder if this is based on a DRG. Has anyone heard about the latest?

RE: Here is some information
Superficial wound debridements will not be limited; however deep wound debridements (11043-11044) will be limited to maximum of 5. This is from Trailblazer.

If you are taking tendon and/or bone out of a wound more than five times in a row something is wrong.
